Privacy Policy
Effective October 11, 2026 · Applies to the dailydropnewspaper.com website (including the former address dailydrop.kr) and the DailyDrop iOS and Android apps
1. Information we collect
You can read DailyDrop without logging in. Signing up is optional and exists so you can use bookmarks on more than one device. We process only the following information to provide the service.
- Account information (if you sign up) — email address, name (optional), and sign-in method (a Google account identifier or a password). Passwords are stored only as an irreversible hash (PBKDF2). To keep you signed in we use a session cookie (dd_sid, 30 days) and a signed-in indicator cookie (dd_in).
- Bookmarks — the stories and terms you save (headline, edition date, link, term definition) are stored in your account.
- Visit statistics — to learn which pages are read, we record the page address, edition and language, the name of the referring site (domain only), device type (phone, tablet, desktop), whether you used the web or the app, and the country code of your connection. Daily unique visitors are counted only with an irreversible hash made from the date, IP address and browser information; the IP address itself is not stored. If your browser sends Do Not Track (DNT) or Global Privacy Control (GPC), we record nothing.
- Access logs — our hosting provider (Cloudflare) records IP address, time of access and browser type for a short period for security and troubleshooting. These logs are not used to identify individuals.
- On-device storage — saved items, editions you have read, and theme settings are stored only on your device (browser storage) and are not sent to our servers. Deleting the app or clearing browser data removes them.
- Live market figures — the numbers in the market strip on the front page are public quotes (Yahoo Finance and others, possibly delayed) that the DailyDrop server fetches once a minute. No information about you is passed to the quote providers.
- Edition choice and country of connection — the edition you chose (dd_region) and the country code of your connection (dd_cc, for example KR or US, determined by Cloudflare from your IP address) are stored in cookies. They are used only to open the front page in that country's edition and to list that country first in the edition menu. The IP address itself is not stored.
- Notifications (optional) — if you turn on morning-edition alerts, a device token for sending them is stored on our server. It is used only to send alerts and is deleted when you turn alerts off.
2. How we use information
To provide news summaries, account features such as bookmarks, publication alerts, aggregate statistics for improving the service, service reliability checks, and advertising. The visit statistics DailyDrop runs itself do not use advertising identifiers or behavioral tracking. However, the ads shown on our pages are provided by Google, and Google and its partners use cookies as described in section 9. If you sign in with Google, Google handles your Google account information to process the sign-in.
3. Sharing and international transfer
DailyDrop does not sell your account information (email, name, bookmarks) or pass it to advertising companies. We use servers operated by our hosting provider, Cloudflare, Inc. (United States), so access logs may be processed outside your country. When an ad is displayed, your browser connects directly to the ad servers of Google LLC (United States), and Google receives cookies, your IP address and device information and processes them outside your country (see section 9).
4. Retention
Access logs are deleted after the hosting provider's retention period (typically days to weeks). Notification tokens are deleted when you turn alerts off or delete the app. Account information and bookmarks are deleted immediately when you close your account (My page → Account → Delete account), and any remaining visit-statistics records are unlinked from the account.
5. Your rights
You can turn alerts off at any time in your device settings or in the app. You can delete on-device data yourself. Members can remove bookmarks or delete their account from My page. For anything else, write to the contact address below.
6. Children
DailyDrop does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 14.
7. External links
Source links lead to the websites of the publishers and institutions concerned. Those sites handle personal information under their own policies.
8. Contact and changes
Contact: contact@dailydropnewspaper.com. Requests to access, correct or delete personal information, and requests to correct a story, are also received at this address. When this policy changes, we update the effective date on this page.
9. Advertising and cookies
DailyDrop shows ads through Google AdSense.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to DailyDrop or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the Internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings. You can opt out of other vendors' personalized-advertising cookies at aboutads.info.
- If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we ask for your consent to cookies on your first visit. If you decline, you see non-personalized ads instead of personalized ones, and you can change your choice at any time under "Cookie settings" at the bottom of the page.
- See How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
