An Australian soldier is killed and five injured when a vehicle rolls over in a training exercise near Darwin
A soldier died and five were injured on Monday at the Mount Bundey training area, Northern Territory. Reports describe a vehicle rollover. Two of the injured were in a stable condition in Darwin and three were being monitored at the barracks. The Army named the soldier as Corporal Brendan Hannam, 28, an Afghanistan veteran and father of two. Chief of Army Lieutenant General Susan Coyle called him much beloved. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said it was a terrible reminder of what families take on. Reports say it is the second training death in recent months.
Training deaths test the military's safety systems, and an inquiry will follow.
No direct effect.
The coroner and Defence will say how it happened. Until then the facts are the ones the Army has given.
