Christa Pike is conscious after surviving a Tennessee execution attempt, her lawyers say

SBS, the Herald and ABC reported that Christa Pike, who survived an execution attempt in Tennessee on September 30, is awake after six days on a ventilator. Her lawyers say she has pneumonia, a blood clot and no use of her arms. A Nashville judge ordered the state to keep all evidence. Legal experts told ABC a second attempt would be highly problematic. Tennessee's governor has paused executions and ordered an outside investigation.

It raises the question of whether a state may try again after a failed execution.

No effect in Australia, which abolished the death penalty.

The evidence order is the first step in building a record.
