Kenya reports its first Ebola case, a man back from Congo who died in Nairobi, and Australian outlets ask whether the world is watching the wrong outbreak

Kenya confirmed its first Ebola case on October 6. A Kenyan man who had been living in Congo fell ill about a month earlier, travelled overland to Kampala and flew to Nairobi on October 3. He tested positive at Nairobi Hospital and died on Monday. Health Minister Aden Duale said 28 contacts were listed and one had tested positive, and 23 passengers and crew are being traced. Contacts isolate for 21 days. The outbreak, of the Bundibugyo strain, is the second largest on record with more than 8,000 cases and more than 4,000 deaths in eastern Congo; Kenya is the fourth country with a linked case. The WHO advised against travel restrictions and the Africa CDC is sending a team.

Cases travelling by air show how a regional outbreak becomes a global concern.

We saw no report of an Ebola case in Australia.

The measure is how many contacts develop symptoms in the next 21 days.
