US Army to livestream the firing squad execution of the Fort Hood shooter
The Pentagon said the firing squad execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the Army psychiatrist convicted over the 2009 shooting at Fort Hood, would be livestreamed, Reuters and AP reported, and the Herald and The Age carried the news. Bloomberg Television also carried a guest calling the method medieval and predicting political damage for Republicans in the midterms; that is an opinion, not a finding.
Streaming a US military execution is unusual and has prompted debate about the death penalty and the public's role in witnessing it.
No direct effect in Australia, which abolished the death penalty.
Watch for legal challenges and the date, which the reports we reviewed did not give.
