Teen arrested after a woman is hit by a car outside Flinders Street Station near the marathon route
A teenager was arrested after a woman was hit by a car outside Flinders Street Station in Melbourne’s CBD on Sunday, near the route of the Melbourne Marathon, the Herald, The Age and ABC reported. The Herald said witnesses reported seeing police draw their weapons as the car travelled up Flinders Street, which was closed for the race. ABC said witnesses told it a car was driving erratically on Flinders and Elizabeth streets. A cafe owner described a speeding car near the marathon, the Herald reported. We did not see the woman’s condition, the teenager’s age or any charges.
A vehicle on a closed street during a mass-participation event raises questions about road closures and safety at city events.
If you were near Flinders Street on Sunday, Victoria Police are likely to ask for witnesses and footage.
Watch for police statements on charges, the woman’s condition and any review of event security.
