Australia’s first Michelin stars go to 11 restaurants, all in South Australia

The BBC, ABC and Adelaide Now reported that Australia’s first-ever Michelin stars have gone to 11 restaurants in one state, South Australia, as the Michelin Guide arrived there. Adelaide Now also reported that foodies were gobsmacked by some snubs. The Conversation wrote that the selection celebrates a food culture shaped by place and migration. We did not see the restaurant names.

A Michelin listing can lift tourism and bookings for a region, and is a sign of how Australian dining is seen abroad.

If you are planning a food trip to South Australia, expect higher demand and book early.

The guide puts South Australian food on the world map.

A foreign guide is only one view, and snubs show how subjective the awards are.

Watch for how the guide treats other states. We will report any expansion once confirmed.
