Suncor sells Terra Nova, White Rose and West White Rose to a U.K. producer

Suncor Energy agreed to sell its 48% of Terra Nova, 40% of White Rose and 38.6% of West White Rose to Ithaca Energy for $1.2 billion up front, plus up to $350 million contingent on future oil prices. Ithaca also assumes a $500 million well-compliance program at Terra Nova from 2027 and about $1.4 billion in abandonment and lease liabilities. Cenovus operates White Rose, so those stakes are non-operated. Suncor keeps Hebron and Hibernia and raised its monthly buyback ceiling to $750 million from $500 million starting in October. Closing is expected in early 2027.

Offshore fields carry some of the highest decommissioning costs in the industry. Selling them lets Suncor concentrate on oilsands barrels and shareholder returns.

Workers on the three fields should ask about employment after closing. Shareholders get a bigger buyback.

Look for regulator comments from the Canada–Newfoundland and Labrador offshore board. The sale needs approvals, and the compliance program is the part to read.
