Hurricane Isaias makes landfall on the U.S. Gulf Coast

Hurricane Isaias made landfall on the U.S. Gulf Coast late Friday as a Category 2 storm, according to CBC, CTV News and BBC. The Straits Times, citing the National Hurricane Center, said it weakened to Category 1 after landfall in Florida. RTVE reported more than 512,000 customers without power. Earlier editions reported Shell halted four Gulf fields ahead of the storm. We did not see damage totals.

The Gulf Coast hosts offshore oil output and refineries, so storm damage can move fuel prices.

Canadian refiners and drivers feel U.S. fuel moves within days. Travellers to the Southeast should check flights.

Watch power restoration, flooding inland and whether oil facilities report damage.
