Alberta's separation referendum enters its last week; Carney plans to be in the province

CBC reported that the prime minister is set to be in Alberta in the final week before the referendum. Radio-Canada and CBC said Premier Danielle Smith ruled out a second vote if Albertans choose to remain. CTV reported former premier Jason Kenney warning that low turnout could favour separatists, and Global News and Elections Alberta said in-person voting is ready. The exact vote date was not in the reports we read.

A yes vote would start a process with no precedent in modern Canada and affect trade, pensions and federal lands.

If you are in Alberta, check where and when you can vote. Elsewhere, expect financial markets to react to the result.

Federalists say the vote should settle the question for a generation.

Separatists say turnout will decide the outcome and that they are not preparing to quit if they lose, the Toronto Star reported.

The decisive number is turnout, not polls.
