Vance chaired an unannounced Camp David meeting on the Iran war on Friday
Senior members of the Trump administration met at Camp David on Friday 2 October to discuss next steps in the Iran war and the Saudi-Houthi conflict in Yemen, according to Axios, which Just Security's morning digest and CBS News also cite. Vice President JD Vance chaired it. The White House did not announce the meeting. A US official also said two members of Iran's delegation to the UN General Assembly had been removed from the country.
A closed-door session at the presidential retreat days before Mr Trump said "a decision is coming" suggests that options, including a return to large-scale strikes, are being weighed. It also shows who is carrying the file: the vice president, not the president.
A resumption of strikes would be likely to push oil and bond yields up again, which feeds into UK fuel prices and mortgage pricing.
Do not read a decision into a meeting. Watch for orders to forces and for any change in the language on the seven-day plan; those are the signals that move markets.
