Three years on from 7 October, Burnham tells British Jews 'we stand with you' as the Israeli embassy says relations 'have seen better days'

Sky News, the BBC, the Guardian and the Independent marked the third anniversary of the Hamas attacks. In a statement Andy Burnham told British Jews "we stand with you" against antisemitism, and the Israeli embassy's spokesperson told Sky News that UK–Israel relations "have seen better days". British Jewish groups held a vigil opposite Downing Street. The Met had asked students to move a pro-Palestine march planned for the date, saying serious concerns had been expressed about its impact on Jewish students and staff, and said it could not ban it. Israelis demand accountability for failures, the BBC reported.

The anniversary falls amid a dispute between London and Jerusalem over the consulate and settlements, and as antisemitism concerns grow among British Jews.

Expect a larger police presence in central London and around synagogues.

Policing of protests on this date is a test of the Met's rules. Watch the conditions it sets and how many arrests follow.
