Reform's own inquiry clears its advisers over the Channel 4 donations sting. The Met's criminal investigation goes on

Reform UK published a 27-page internal report which concluded that advisers James Orr and Dan Jukes did not breach electoral law over a Channel 4 undercover investigation, that the programme was distorted, and that the polls at its centre were commissioned by a contractor at his own risk. No money was received for a proposed £500,000 donation, it said. It made seven recommendations. Both men stepped down from party duties and deny wrongdoing. The Metropolitan Police's criminal investigation continues. Reform says Verbatim acted unlawfully and will be taking legal action.

An inquiry commissioned by the party cannot settle the question; the police investigation and any court decision can.

No direct effect, though donation rules affect every party.

The party has acted quickly and published its findings.

Marking your own homework does not clear anyone.

Treat the report as the party's account. The test is whether the Met charges anyone.
