Houthi strikes on Riyadh airport kill three. The EU aviation safety body widens its Saudi airspace warning and the UK condemns the escalation
Saudi authorities said three people were killed in Houthi-claimed attacks on Riyadh airport, Reuters and AP reported. Reuters said the European Union Aviation Safety Agency widened its warning on Saudi airspace. Lufthansa and Indian airlines had already suspended flights to Riyadh. At the UN Security Council the UK said it unequivocally condemns the Houthis' escalation. FinancialJuice reported that a Saudi-led coalition said it was running a wide-ranging operation against Houthi forces in Yemen and that Mr Trump was not pleased with the situation. Separately, UAE prosecutors say a flydubai co-pilot planned a suicide attack on a Tel Aviv flight, Reuters and the Guardian reported.
The Gulf is the centre of global oil and air traffic. Attacks on a major airport raise the chance of wider disruption to flights and fuel supply.
Check airline notices if you are booked on flights to or through Saudi Arabia. Insurance and fuel costs may rise for carriers.
The Saudi-led operation shows the kingdom is willing to hit back.
More strikes risk widening the conflict and further disruption to shipping and air travel.
Watch the airspace warnings, further airline suspensions and any move in oil prices on Monday.
