Northern lights are seen as far south as Devon, Hampshire and Kent
The aurora borealis lit skies across the UK on Friday and Saturday evenings, the Guardian reported, with sky-gazers in Devon, Hampshire and Kent among those who saw it. The BBC said it was the result of increased solar activity. The U.S. NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center had forecast a strong geomagnetic storm for 10 October.
Auroras reach the south of Britain only when a solar eruption sends charged particles that disturb Earth's magnetic field strongly.
If skies are clear tonight and activity continues, look north away from street lights; the Met Office and NOAA publish forecasts.
Space-weather forecasts can change quickly. Watch NOAA's updates if you want another chance.
