Greens leader Zack Polanski signals an overhaul after a row over a Zionism vote

Green Party leader Zack Polanski signalled an overhaul of the party's grassroots democracy, saying leaders may need more control over policy, after a row over a conference motion declaring Zionism a form of racism, the Guardian and the Evening Standard reported. The Standard said the motion passed in Brighton with around 1,000 votes to 800, and that senior London Greens had distanced themselves from it after a by-election defeat. Mr Polanski said he would never tolerate antisemitism.

The rapid growth of the Greens has put the party's open decision-making under strain, and the row has become a test of Mr Polanski's authority.

If you vote Green or are a member, expect changes to how policy is made.

Watch whether the party changes its rules, and whether the motion is reversed.
