Reform UK councillors are filmed making racist remarks and the party opens probes. Burnham rules out a deal with the Greens over their 'Zionism is racism' motion

An undercover ITV News investigation, 'Inside Reform', showed Reform UK councillors and candidates making extreme and racist comments on camera, according to ITV's listing, the BBC and the Guardian. The Evening Standard reported that the programme alleged a London councillor claimed King Charles was Muslim. The Mirror reported that Reform has launched investigations; the BBC said the party faces criticism. Separately, Prime Minister Andy Burnham ruled out a deal with the Greens after their conference passed a 'Zionism is racism' motion, the BBC, the Standard, the Independent and the Mail reported. The National reported an angry reply from Greens leader Zack Polanski, and the FT said the party is split.

Both rows concern the standards parties hold their own people to. For Reform, the issue is vetting of candidates; for the Greens, it is how far the party's conference can bind its leadership.

If you live in a council area with a Reform councillor named in the film, expect local pressure. Neither row changes any law.

Critics of Reform say the film shows a pattern, not isolated remarks, and that internal probes are not enough.

Reform's supporters say a few individuals do not speak for the party, which is investigating them. The Greens' defenders say the motion is a political statement about Israel, not hostility to Jewish people.

Separate the two stories. The Reform story turns on what the party does to named people. The Greens story turns on whether the leadership accepts or reverses its conference vote.
