Nasdaq sets a record as US 10-year yield climbs above 5.3% and oil swings around $100
The S&P 500 rose 0.7% to 7,773.95 and the Nasdaq 1.1% to a record 27,477.31 on Monday; the Dow gained 90.94 points to 51,267.90 (AP via La Nación, Tradejini). The 10-year Treasury yield was reported at 5.31% (5.28% in a pre-market brief). Brent traded between $100 and $103 before settling just over $100. WTI closed at US$89.43 (-1.84%) and gold at US$4,156.8 (-0.13%).
Yields above 5% make borrowing dearer for governments and companies worldwide. Shares are rising regardless, which suggests investors are betting on solid earnings.
