Gold falls 1.1% and oil reverses lower as yields climb
Gold closed at US$4,140.7 (-1.11%) and WTI at US$88.28 (-1.30%) on Wednesday (market data). Oil was higher at the open but reversed, and Brent briefly traded above US$102 before settling at US$100.20 (market reports; Economies.com). RTÉ and Roic.ai noted oil above US$100 earlier in the session.
Gold and oil are barometers of fear and demand. Both fell as yields rose.
Lower oil, if it lasts, eases pressure on fuel and heating prices.
The fall in oil suggests markets do not expect a long squeeze on supply.
The swings, from above US$102 to US$100.20, show how sensitive prices are to Hormuz news.
Treat daily oil moves as noise unless Hormuz news changes. The US$100 Brent line is the one to watch.
