George Gibney jailed for 15½ years for abusing four girls
The Irish Times reported on Monday that the former swimming coach George Gibney was jailed for 15½ years for abusing four girls. The Irish Examiner had reported on Sunday that he was due to be sentenced on Monday, and a Dublin jury convicted him in July (Irish Examiner, Dublin People). Only the Irish Times had the sentence by late Monday.
The case concerns abuse of children in Irish sport decades ago, and a long delay before conviction.
