Day two of the INDIA bloc's protest: Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi lie on the road and are hauled away, while allies voice unease
Opposition leaders continued their protest against CEC Gyanesh Kumar. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi were removed and detained after lying on a Delhi road. Mr Gandhi said the protests would go on until the CEC quits. INDIA bloc MPs travelled by bus from a lunch hosted by Mallikarjun Kharge towards Jantar Mantar, halting traffic on Janpath. The Indian Express reported allies were unhappy with the Gandhis' impromptu protest. The Samajwadi Party skipped the lunch, with an official citing delayed communication; NDTV reported a DMK U-turn.
Opposition unity is as much the story as the protest. A bloc that cannot coordinate a lunch will find it hard to sustain a movement.
Expect traffic closures around Parliament Street, Janpath and Jantar Mantar on protest days.
Peaceful protest against a body the opposition says is compromised is the democratic route when other doors are shut.
Blocking roads and rushing a broadcaster's compound invites police action and distracts from the legal case.
