Nana Patekar, the 'Krantiveer' of Hindi cinema, dies at 75 of a cardiac arrest

Actor Nana Patekar died at 75 on Thursday after a cardiac arrest at his residence. NDTV reports doctors performed CPR for 45 minutes; The Hindu says he was brought dead to hospital. His funeral will be held with state honours at his farmhouse in Pune. PM Modi and CM Fadnavis paid tribute. He was known to a generation as 'Krantiveer', and once left films to serve in the Army during the Kargil war.

He was one of the strongest screen presences in Hindi cinema, and fans knew his Army stint during Kargil as well as his films.
