Musk keeps up his Starlink attack on Ambani, days before Jio's record IPO

Musk accused Mukesh Ambani's online supporters of "absurd hypocrisy" and "ridiculous arguments" (The Hindu, Rediff, The New Indian Express), said competition would greatly benefit the average Indian and vowed an affordable Starlink (Mint, Hindustan Times, Reuters). Reuters says this comes days before the record IPO of Jio Platforms. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey said Starlink poses security threats (Mint, Hindustan Times), and The Hindu quotes him saying India's security policy is not shaped by social media pressure. Moneycontrol says Jio enters the IPO with stronger cash generation and lower leverage.

Satellite internet is a new market, and a licence dispute shows how closely it is tied to India's biggest business groups and to national security rules.

If you live where fibre and mobile networks are patchy, satellite internet could mean a choice; prices and a launch date are not yet set. If you plan to apply for the Jio IPO, read the prospectus.

Starlink's backers say competition would lower prices and bring service to remote areas.

Critics say satellite internet raises security and spectrum questions that need careful rules.

No licence decision has been reported. Watch the IPO terms and whether the government comments on Starlink.
