Six states get new governors: Arlekar moves to Tamil Nadu, Sudha Yadav becomes Karnataka's second woman governor

President Droupadi Murmu appointed governors for six states (Hindustan Times, Mint, The Hindu, Babushahi). R.V. Arlekar, who had served as governor of Keralam and held additional charge of Tamil Nadu since March, becomes Tamil Nadu's governor, and Sikkim's Om Prakash Mathur moves to Keralam (Mint, The Hindu). The Hindu reports that Sudha Yadav becomes Karnataka's second woman governor. Odisha, Sikkim and Uttarakhand also get new governors.

Governors are the Centre's appointees who sign state bills and invite parties to form governments, so reshuffles matter most in states where the Centre and the elected government disagree.

No direct effect on daily life; the changes show up in how state bills and appointments move.

Supporters say routine rotations bring experienced hands to key states.

Critics say governors are used as political instruments against opposition-run states.

Watch Tamil Nadu and Keralam, where governor-government friction has been frequent.
