Nifty falls 0.70% to 22,363 and rupee rises to 95.75; Wall Street figures are Friday's
India: the Nifty 50 closed at 22,363.35, down 0.70 per cent, and the Sensex fell 548 points (Business Standard, The Hindu). The rupee closed at 95.75 per dollar, up 96 paise (The Hindu). United States, Friday 9 October closes: S&P 500 7,811.54 (+0.59%), Nasdaq 27,366.17 (+0.64%), Dow 51,654.95 (+0.83%), WTI crude 91.85 (+0.39%) and gold 4,216.3 (+1.43%). Monday's US session had not closed when this edition was written, so we do not give it.
Indian stocks fell while the rupee rose, because oil and foreign selling hit shares and RBI curbs helped the currency.
Oil above $93 a barrel (WTI, per a market wire) keeps petrol and diesel costs under pressure.
Read Friday's US numbers as stale: Monday's session closed after our deadline. The Sensex and Nifty had already fallen on oil and foreign selling before Wall Street's Monday move is known.
