Air India's Frankfurt–Delhi flight lands in Jaipur after a hijack-code alert; reports differ on a bomb threat
An Air India flight from Frankfurt to Delhi was diverted to Jaipur after a security scare. The Times of India reports that the hijack transponder code 7500 appeared while the pilots reported everything normal. The Hindu, NDTV and The Times of India describe the cause as a bomb threat, Hindustan Times and Moneycontrol as a hijack alert or rumour, and The Economic Times as a bomb and hijack threat. Air India said the aircraft landed safely in Jaipur (Mint). Hindustan Times quotes passengers who say they were told they could not land in Delhi for security reasons, and reports that a probe is on.
The code 7500 is a silent alarm a crew can enter to tell air traffic control of a hijack. Whether it was entered or set off by mistake decides whether this was a threat or a false alarm.
Passengers on this flight should wait for Air India's communication on rebooking or compensation. For everyone else, nothing changes.
Several outlets agree on the diversion and the safe landing; they do not agree on the cause. Until Air India or the aviation regulator names one, hijack and bomb threat are both unconfirmed.
