Voter-roll protests spill onto Delhi streets as government and opposition trade charges

Opposition parties are protesting against the Election Commission's revision of voter rolls. In Delhi, about 150 people were reported detained around a tricolour march. The government says the protests are meant to weaken institutions; opposition leaders say the Commission is partisan. The Supreme Court is also hearing a contempt plea on police handling.

Voter lists decide who can vote, so disputes over them go to the legitimacy of elections.

If your name is on the roll you are unaffected today, but check it on the Commission's portal.

The protests are about voter rolls, and both sides accuse the other of bad faith.
