Government raises windfall tax on petrol exports, trims it on diesel
The government raised the export duty on petrol to ₹2.5 a litre from ₹0.5 and cut it on diesel. The change was notified late on Thursday and applied from Friday. It targets exports, not retail.
It shifts refiners' incentive between selling fuel abroad and at home.
Pump prices were not reported to change.
