Census 2027 enumerator roles opened to private teachers, institutions, trust and society members

The Centre has opened enumerator roles for Census 2027 to private teachers, institutions, trust and society members, according to two outlets on Saturday, October 17. Until now mostly government school teachers, revenue officials and other State government officials were engaged to carry out the count. The reports do not give the payment. They do not give the training schedule or the deadline. Two outlets carried the story.

A wider pool of enumerators eases staffing pressure on schools and revenue offices, and gives private teachers a role in the count. Households are affected because the person who knocks may not be a government employee. The change also affects schools, which supply many of the enumerators.

Ask any enumerator for identification before sharing household details. Private teachers interested in the role should look for the official notification from their state and note the application dates.

A census is only as honest as the person holding the form, so check their credentials.
