CISF personnel catch a man trying to flee Delhi's Jama Masjid Metro station after a scan flags a suspicious substance
Hindustan Times, India Today and the Free Press Journal reported that Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at Delhi's Jama Masjid Metro station apprehended a passenger on October 19 after a suspicious object was flagged during checking. The CISF said the man tried to flee the screening area and was caught near the exit gate. The Free Press Journal reported that an unidentified semi-solid substance was found concealed in a stitched portion of his undergarment. The man claimed to be an NRI residing in Kuala Lumpur, the CISF said, and he was handed over to police with his belongings and the substance.
Metro stations screen passengers with X-ray scanners and frisking, and an attempt to run during a check is what led staff to stop him. The substance has not been identified, so there is no basis yet to link the case to any offence.
If you use the Delhi Metro, expect baggage and personal checks at entry, and cooperate with staff. Wait for police to say what the substance is before drawing conclusions.
The CISF account, as reported: its personnel detected the object during screening and caught the passenger as he tried to leave.
The reports say police are working to identify the substance and the reason it was concealed. The man's claim to be an NRI was not independently verified in the reports.
Confirmed are the screening flag, the attempt to flee and the handover to police. Not confirmed are what the substance is and any charge. Watch for a police statement on the lab result.
