Anwar tables a record RM510 billion Budget 2027, targeting a 3.3% deficit
Anwar tabled Budget 2027 on 9 October at 3.35pm (The Star, Business Today, Bernama, NST, Malay Mail). Spending is a record RM510 billion versus RM470 billion for 2026: RM376.8 billion operating and RM83 billion development, with revenue forecast at RM380.8 billion. The deficit target is 3.3% in 2027 and 3% in 2028, after about 3.6% in 2026 because fuel subsidies reached around RM40 billion. Federal debt is projected at 63.7% of GDP in 2027. Some outlets cite RM459.8 billion for the federal budget alone.
It sets the fiscal path before a possible general election and tests how far the government can protect households while cutting the deficit.
Look at the tax relief, cash aid and minimum wage items to see what applies to you. Debate starts on Monday.
The government says it balances targeted relief, fiscal reform and growth.
