Trump declares a Russia–Ukraine “energy ceasefire”; Kyiv backs it but says the post was news to it

Trump wrote on Truth Social that an energy ceasefire was effective immediately, that both parties had agreed, and “Do not break it!” Zelensky first said it was news to him (Axios, via The Week), then wrote on Telegram that Ukraine backs real and credible ceasefire formats. Reuters reported Ukraine is ready to halt refinery strikes if Russia stops attacking its energy grid. Kyiv awaits details from Washington. DailyDrop saw no Russian confirmation. Germany’s foreign minister backed Zelensky after Trump’s call for a new president, and the FT reported a US threat to block weapons over refinery strikes.

Strikes on refineries and power plants move oil and diesel prices and affect power supply for civilians. A truce that one side says it never saw may not hold.

Malaysia’s fuel prices follow global benchmarks and local subsidy policy, so any effect would be indirect. Watch crude oil on Monday.

Supporters say an energy truce could lower oil prices and cut civilian suffering.

Critics say the US announced it before Kyiv or Moscow had agreed and is pressing Ukraine.

Until Moscow confirms and the strikes stop, this is Trump’s claim plus Ukraine’s conditional yes. The Zaporizhzhia toll of 23 is Zelensky’s figure, not confirmed by a second source.
