Haze keeps every Johor school shut until 16 October while other states reopen today
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said all Johor schools and those under four Selangor district education offices would stay closed on Monday as the haze remained hazardous (New Straits Times). Johor’s schools remain shut until 16 October, and the Special School Admission Assessment (PKSK) planned for Monday was postponed. Schools in Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Putrajaya and parts of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor reopen (Malay Mail, NST). The Department of Environment said air quality in Kuching and Miri had improved to moderate. Firefly cancelled Subang–Seletar flights from 10 to 12 October. Earlier in the week a Regent’s decree closed all 1,198 Johor schools.
School closures hit parents’ work and children’s learning, and they show how long the haze has lasted. Different rules in different districts make the ministry’s daily notices the only reliable guide.
If you live in Johor or the four Selangor districts, schools are closed today. Elsewhere, check your school’s notice, keep children indoors on poor-air days and wear a mask rated for fine particles if you must go out.
Officials say closures protect children while readings stay unhealthy.
Parents say district-by-district decisions are confusing and disrupt work.
DailyDrop did not find a confirmed cause or a forecast for when the air clears in the reports it saw. The ministry’s next announcements will decide Tuesday.
