Second strike hits Riyadh airport a day after an attack that killed 12; Malaysia condemns the violence

A projectile hit Terminal 4 at King Khalid International Airport on Sunday and caused a fire, the Saudi-led coalition said (BBC, Livemint). It came a day after a missile attack that killed 12 people and wounded more than 300, according to Saudi authorities (AP). The Houthis claimed the Saturday attack and renewed a warning against using Saudi airports (Reuters). Saudi Arabia extended the airport’s closure and the coalition vowed retaliation (The Guardian). The Indian Embassy said one Indian died. Malaysia condemned the attacks and urged a peaceful resolution (NST).

Riyadh is a hub for pilgrims, workers and the energy industry. Repeated strikes on a major airport raise the chance of a wider regional war and disrupt oil and air travel.

If you or family are travelling for umrah or work via Saudi Arabia, confirm flights with the airline and follow Wisma Putra’s travel advice. Some flights have been diverted to Madinah.

The coalition says it will retaliate and defend civilians.

The Houthis say they are answering strikes on Yemen and have warned airlines.

The Saudi toll is the authorities’ figure; the Houthi claim on Dammam and Aramco is from one outlet and not confirmed. Watch whether the airport reopens and whether oil prices jump on Monday.
