KLCI closes 0.59% higher on bank buying while Genting sinks; Wall Street’s Monday close is still to come
The FBM KLCI closed at 1,618.01 on Monday, up 9.56 points or 0.59%, from 1,608.45 on Friday (The Star, FMT). Decliners beat gainers 778 to 344 (The Star). The ringgit opened higher (NST, FMT) but its close could not be confirmed. On Friday in New York the S&P 500 rose 0.59% to 7,811.54, the Nasdaq Composite 0.64% to 27,366.17 and the Dow 0.83% to 51,654.95; WTI settled at US$91.85 (+0.39%) and gold at US$4,216.3 (+1.43%). Monday’s U.S. session closes after this edition. A data feed showed WTI near US$93.7 during that session, an intraday quote.
A rising index with more losers than gainers shows bank-led gains hiding broad weakness. Oil and the dollar feed into fuel costs and the ringgit.
Little to act on in a day. Fuel and imported-goods prices follow oil and the ringgit over weeks.
The ringgit ear shows a dash because DailyDrop could not confirm a closing rate from two sources. Friday’s U.S. figures are the latest completed session.
