Missile reported to hit Aramco’s headquarters as Saudi forces strike a fuel depot near Sanaa and oil holds above US$105

Bloomberg reported, citing people with knowledge, that a Houthi missile hit Saudi Aramco’s headquarters in Dhahran on Tuesday and caused a fire in part of the complex. Reuters, citing six sources, reported loud booms near the headquarters, which had been evacuated. Neither report carried a Saudi or Aramco statement. Earlier on Tuesday the Saudi-led coalition ordered civilians to leave the Sabah central station, a Yemen Petroleum Company depot outside Sanaa, and then struck it (Reuters, Guardian, BBC). The BBC said the Houthis vowed to retaliate against Riyadh and Dammam; Al Jazeera said they threatened Aramco facilities and airports. Trump said the Houthis were behaving very badly and were trying to raise oil prices before the US midterms (Reuters, Al Jazeera). Indian airlines cancelled Saudi flights to 17 October (Hindustan Times) and Singapore urged citizens to defer travel (CNA, Straits Times). The NST’s headline put the airport attacks’ toll at 18.

Aramco is the world’s largest oil exporter, and an attack on its headquarters, if confirmed, would move the fight from airports to the energy system. That is why oil and airlines are reacting before the facts are settled.

Malaysian fuel prices follow subsidy policy as well as world oil, so any effect is indirect and slow. If you or family plan umrah, work or transit through Saudi Arabia, confirm with your airline and follow Wisma Putra’s advice.

Saudi Arabia says it will respond seriously to the Houthi attacks and has now struck Houthi oil infrastructure (NST, Reuters).

The Houthis say any strike on their oil sites will draw a harsh response, and warn civilians away from Aramco sites (Al Jazeera).

The Aramco hit rests on unnamed sources, and the toll of 18 is one outlet’s figure that DailyDrop cannot reconcile with earlier counts. The signals to watch are an official Saudi statement, whether Houthis strike Riyadh or Dammam as threatened, and whether Brent holds above US$105.
