Malaysia’s King buys a S$6.1 million stake in a rare-earths miner
Malaysia’s King, Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar, bought a stake in the Singapore-listed miner Southern Alliance Mining Ltd for S$6.1 million (US$4.8 million), the company said in a statement, Bloomberg reported. The Business Times and the Straits Times said the firm is expanding into Malaysia’s rare-earths sector, including a project in his home state of Johor.
Rare earths are inputs for magnets, electronics and electric vehicles, and Malaysia is trying to build a place in that supply chain.
No direct effect on households; it signals interest in Malaysia’s rare-earths projects.
The size of the stake as a share of the company was not in what DailyDrop saw. A royal investment in a listed firm tends to draw attention to the project, not prove it will succeed.
