Bukit Aman to send a team to Japan after five Malaysians were held over 5kg of cocaine hidden in shoe insoles
Bukit Aman said it would send officers to Japan to look into the case of five Malaysians held at a Tokyo airport (Malay Mail, NST, FMT, 14 Oct). The NST and the Malay Mail said the cocaine weighed about 5kg and was hidden in shoe insoles. Our last edition reported the arrests; the new development is the investigation team. The NST also published its own features on how social media and disappearing messages fuel drug-mule recruitment and on international drug rings eyeing other airports as KLIA steps up scrutiny. Those pieces are the newspaper’s reporting rather than a police statement, and DailyDrop could not check them. DailyDrop saw headlines only for the main report, so it does not know the team’s size, its dates or what the five face under Japanese law.
Drug cases abroad can carry heavy penalties, and Malaysians recruited as couriers are often the easiest link in a syndicate to catch. A police team on the ground may decide whether the case stays with the five or reaches the people who recruited them.
Be wary of any stranger or online contact offering free travel, cash or a “small favour” that involves carrying luggage or shoes for someone else. You are responsible for what is in your bag.
The headlines do not say what the five have told investigators, and neither should we guess. The useful signal will be whether police name any recruiters in Malaysia.
