Staff at Lagos State universities down tools over unpaid salary arrears

Guardian Nigeria reported that the Joint Action Committee of ASUU, SSANU, NASU and NAAT began an indefinite strike on October 2 at LASU, LASUED, LASUSTECH and LASUCOM after a seven-day ultimatum lapsed, citing nine months of unpaid arrears (January to September 2026) and unimplemented pay structures. Legit and Daily Trust reported an ASUU-led indefinite strike from September 15 over the domestication of its agreement with the federal government. Frontier Brief confirms universities are shut. It is unclear from the reports whether these are one dispute or two.

Students lose a semester and parents may pay for delays; the dispute also tests how far states honour agreements signed by the federal government.

If you have a child at a state university in Lagos, check the school portal and your union branch for dates before travelling.

Unions say they have waited months for pay.

The state is expected to say it is balancing the budget; no response found.

The overlapping dates matter. Until a union or the state says clearly which strike is on, assume classes are closed. Watch for talks this week.
