Security forces say they killed ISWAP leader Abdussamad Ohida in Ondo forest
Several outlets reported that Ohida was killed in a joint Army, DSS and Amotekun operation in the Owo forest, Ondo State, over the weekend (Arise, Legit, ThisDay, Blueprint, Crisp). Security sources said he took over ISWAP operations in parts of the North-Central and South after a leader's arrest, and was linked to the December 31, 2025 attack on a police station in Owo. They also said intelligence suggested plans to attack civilians and disrupt the 2027 elections. No official statement has been seen.
A militant presence in the South-West forests, far from the north-east, would be a major change; the news matters if it is true and if it is followed by a clearer account.
Residents of Ondo and nearby states should watch for official advice and avoid sharing unverified images from the forest.
Supporters say joint operations with local security networks work and deserve credit.
Sceptics note the claims are unverified and that similar announcements have been revised later.
We will not treat this as settled. Look for the name of the officer who confirms it on the record and for independent evidence.
