Imo kidnappers reportedly cut ransom for 20 corps members to N5m a head

Punch reported that the kidnappers holding 20 prospective NYSC members in Imo reduced the demand from N50 million to N5 million per victim, and Frontier Brief repeated it on Tuesday. Earlier reports from Guardian Nigeria and ThisDay said police found the camp but it is mined. No outlet had reported a rescue by the time of writing. The ransom cut is not confirmed by police.

A falling demand can mean negotiators are in touch; it can also be a pressure tactic. Either way, the family's safety depends on official handling.

Do not send money to anyone claiming to be a go-between.

Police say rescue operations continue.

Parents say a week is too long.

A lower figure is a claim until police confirm. We will carry the next update when a second outlet reports it.
