Survey: 84 percent plan to vote in 2027, but 61 percent fear violence and trust in INEC has fallen to 34 percent

Yiaga Africa's third National Voting Intentions Survey found 84 percent of adults intend to vote in 2027 (up from 77 percent in December), 61 percent said fear of violence could stop them, rising to 78 percent in the North-East, and 34 percent expressed confidence in INEC to hold credible elections, down from 45 percent in earlier rounds (Guardian Nigeria, Leadership, Yiaga). Distrust is higher in the South-South and South-East.

Intent is not turnout, but falling trust in the umpire affects the legitimacy of any result.

Check your registration and collect your card; your vote is your own.

Yiaga says high intent is a good sign.

Others stress that fear and distrust could dampen turnout.

Both numbers are true. Watch whether INEC publishes a credibility plan.
