NNPC's petrol discount is N66 a litre and only for app users, with the offer extended to October 14
NNPC's discount is N66 per litre for customers who use its mobile app and pay digitally (Legit, Leadership, Megastar Magazine, Vanguard). Reports say it was extended to October 14 and widened to diesel. List prices were N1,355 in Lagos and Rivers and N1,370 in Abuja. At some Abuja stations, pump payers were charged N1,405 against N1,339 on the app. The size of the cut and the app-only condition were not in the original announcement.
Fuel prices are the most felt cost for households and transport workers. A discount that needs a smartphone and a digital payment leaves out people without either, and it changes who gets the benefit.
If you want the discount, you need the NNPC app and a digital payment method. Check the price at the pump, and avoid sharing unofficial price lists.
The government and NNPC say an app helps track sales, prevent diversion and reach registered users.
Motorists and unions say an app-only cut excludes many drivers and still leaves petrol above N1,300.
A N66 cut on a N1,355 price is about 5 percent. That is real relief for heavy users, but it is not the price drop many expected. Watch whether NNPC opens the discount to cash buyers and what happens after October 14.
