Nigerian stocks fell on Monday, Nairametrics says; Wall Street ended mixed

Nairametrics reported that Nigerian stocks shed N407 billion on Monday as a banking sell-off dragged the market lower. DailyDrop found no second source for the index level, so the NGX ASI ear shows a dash. No two sources were found for Monday's naira rate either. On Wall Street, Telegraaf and Clarín reported a mixed Monday session with the Dow higher and the Nasdaq lower. The last U.S. closes confirmed here are Friday's: S&P 500 7,811.54 (+0.59%), Nasdaq 27,366.17 (+0.64%) and Dow 51,654.95 (+0.83%). Brent was near $106 on Monday, per The Hill.

Bank shares are the biggest weight on the Nigerian market, so a bank sell-off moves the whole index.

Check any figure with your broker before trading. Do not act on a single report.

Optimists say one down day does not change the longer trend.

Bears say a bank sell-off can signal worry about earnings.

One outlet and one session are not a trend. Wait for the exchange's own daily report and a second source before drawing a conclusion.
