Shettima tells Northern leaders they have "nothing to fear" from a Tinubu second term
Vice-President Kashim Shettima told Northern leaders on Monday they have nothing to fear if President Bola Tinubu is re-elected and urged them to back his bid (Daily Trust, Vanguard, Leadership, Tribune). Tribune said he spoke while hosting a forum called Arewa for Tinubu and described the election as next January. Leadership quoted him saying Tinubu loves the North and will work for the region. DailyDrop has not seen a reply from the opposition.
The North holds a large share of Nigeria's voters, and the vice-president's own region is a battleground for the 2027 race.
Campaign statements are promises, not policy. Compare them with budgets and past records.
Allies say the message answers fears in the North about the president's reforms.
Opponents say the northern vote cannot be taken for granted amid insecurity and living costs.
Watch how northern governors and the opposition respond, and whether the administration backs the words with projects in the region.
