Court strikes out forgery charge against the alleged "fake agency" director-general as Channels TV reports a fresh one filed

Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday struck out the eight-count charge against Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi (ThisDay, Vanguard, Daily Trust, Channels TV). He is the self-styled director-general of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, which the federal government says does not exist (Vanguard). He faced charges of conspiracy and forgery with two others whose whereabouts were unknown (Channels TV). BBC Pidgin reported that the government wanted to take the case to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory and start again. A Channels TV headline said a fresh charge was filed. DailyDrop has not seen it.

The case tests how Nigeria prosecutes people accused of passing off bodies as government agencies. A strike-out is procedural: it does not clear or convict anyone.

If someone offers a job, contract or investment access in the name of a government council, check with the body directly and look for a legal basis. Do not pay fees to an unverified office.

The government's position is that the council is a sham and the case should be refiled in the proper court.

Critics of prosecutions that stall say repeated restarts delay any ruling and leave the public without answers.

Watch where the new charge was filed, whether Adeyemi is in custody, and whether the two co-accused are found. Until the new charge sheet is public, the key facts remain the government's allegations.
