APC puts Wike, Adeleke and Soludo on Tinubu's campaign council; opposition parties trade blows over it
The APC published a revised presidential campaign council list that names Nyesom Wike, Ademola Adeleke and Chukwuma Soludo as campaign managers for the Federal Capital Territory, Osun and Anambra (ThisDay). Vanguard said it includes leading figures from the PDP, Accord and APGA, over strong objections from within the APC. Daily Trust described the design as a “rainbow” council. Punch, Premium Times and Channels TV said President Tinubu is due to inaugurate it today. Punch reported the PDP, APGA and Accord backing the inclusion of their members, while BusinessDay reported opposition parties saying the move will not rescue the APC. Accord's presidential candidate rejected it and said Mr Adeleke cannot compel Osun voters (Vanguard, Channels TV). The election is on January 16, 2027.
Naming sitting opposition governors and a federal minister to the ruling party's council blurs the line between government and opposition in the run-up to the vote. It also tests whether endorsements from governors turn into votes.
Watch for these three at campaign events in Abuja, Osun and Anambra. Read each party's position in its own statement, since the reports so far are second-hand.
The APC says a broad council shows national support and unity behind Mr Tinubu.
Opponents say it shows weakness and confuses voters about who stands for what.
A list is not a vote. Watch whether the three named leaders appear at the inauguration, whether their own parties discipline them, and what Osun and Anambra voters say. DailyDrop has not seen the full list.
