Economists expect September inflation near 6.7 percent, up from 6.1 percent

A Manila Times poll of economists put the median forecast for September inflation at 6.7%, above August's 6.1% and inside the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas estimate range of 6.4% to 7.4%. Analysts cited fuel pump prices, rice prices, heavy rains and transport costs. The Philippine Statistics Authority is scheduled to release the figure on October 6. DailyDrop has seen this poll in only one outlet.

A higher reading could prompt the central bank to raise rates later this month.

Inflation above 6 percent erodes savings and raises loan costs if rates go up.

The range is wide, so the actual figure matters more than the poll. Compare it to the 6.4 and 7.4 bounds.
