Wall Street adds 0.66 percent as bets on a Fed hike fade; oil and gold slip
The S&P 500 closed at 7,773.95 (+0.66%), WTI at $89.43 (−1.84%) and gold at $4,156.8 (−0.13%) on October 5. Odds of a Fed hike in October fell below 20%, from about 64% a week earlier, per CME FedWatch (BusinessWorld, Babypips, Semafor). The Fed raised its policy rate to 3.75-4.00% in September.
U.S. rates set the tone for emerging-market currencies and stocks, including the Philippines.
Softer U.S. rate bets reduce pressure on the peso. Oil near $90 is the offset.
Fewer hike bets are good for borrowers and emerging markets.
One weak jobs report is thin evidence; inflation could still force the Fed's hand.
The next test is U.S. inflation data and the Fed's October meeting. Until then, expect the peso to follow US yields and oil.
