AMLC official is cross-examined for a second day; firm tied to Sara Duterte's husband had ₱1.2 billion in flagged transactions
Day 34 of the impeachment trial on October 6 continued the cross-examination of AMLC executive director Ronel Buenaventura by defense counsel Mark Vinluan (GMA News, Inquirer). Buenaventura said banks flagged at least ₱4.4 billion in covered and suspicious transactions tied to Sara Duterte and Manases Carpio, and that Cale88 Foods Corp. had about ₱1.2 billion in such transactions and received about ₱319 million from China and Hong Kong (GMA News, Philstar). He was excused after around 12 cumulative hours. The defense says the case is political.
These records are the prosecution's core evidence for the unexplained wealth article, and cross-examination shows how strong they are.
No direct effect on services; it shapes the political field before 2028.
Bank-reported records are harder to dismiss than press conference claims.
Covered and suspicious transaction reports flag activity for review and are not proof of wrongdoing, as the defense stressed.
The numbers are large but undefined: no one has yet explained which flows are income, loans or something else. Watch whether the defense's own expert answers that.
